Spidercam installation above the pitch of the Red Bull Arena Leipzig

The brief

The Spidercam delivers the pictures that make a live broadcast special: flights across the pitch, right into the atmosphere of the stadium. To fly freely, the camera hangs from four cables guided by winches in the corners of the stadium. Every one of those points has to sit exactly right, and every component has to be rated for operation above people.

That is where our work starts: finding and assessing anchor points in the roof structure, calculating loads, planning cable runs. And all of it under the demands of a live production where there is no second take.

The execution

SilverBones planned and executed the installation in the Red Bull Arena Leipzig: structural checks and load ratings for the anchor points, installation of winch and deflection points, coordination with stadium operations and the camera team. Redundancy and documentation are part of the package, as is the de-rig after the production, often in the tight window between two events.

The result

An installation that runs reliably again and again: the Spidercam flies, the director gets the pictures, and the stadium can trust that everything above the crowd hangs the way it should.
